Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico
Established: 1938
Cayo Santiago is one of the oldest field sites in the world. Currently home to ~1,200 free-ranging rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta), who are all descended from the founding population brought from India over 75 years ago. Cayo's unique origins and nature give scientists access to pedigree and life-history data that extend generations, along with the ability to collect new detailed behavioural, genetic, cognitive, and physiological data on hundreds of known individuals.
Cayo Santiago website Institutional Funding: Cayo Santiago is supported by grant 8-P40 OD012217-25 from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) and the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) of the National Institutes of Health. |

The Center for Whale Research has been dedicated to collecting social and demographic data on the endangered Southern Resident population of killer whales (Orca orcinus) for 40 years. I had the great pleasure to work with the CWR during my postdoc at the University of Exeter with Darren Croft, Mike Cant, and Dan Franks (U. York)
The Center for Whale Research is a not-for-profit organisation that is funded in large-part through charitable donations. Buy a membership to support killer whale research HERE. |

Exeter Squirrel Project
University of Exeter Campus Running for over 20 years, the Exeter Squirrel Project is directed by Lisa Leaver and aims to unpack the cognitive ecology of the grey squirrel. Together, we're mapping the social networks of these animals, asking questions about dynamic social decisions and the fitness consequences of sociality in this caching mammal.
